As part of ROVA, FAGiC visited the “Limpieza que Cuida” project in Santurtzi, Bizkaia, led by the Association Eus-Kale. The visit provided an opportunity to learn more about the project’s progress and to exchange with the participating women and the organisation’s team.
The project responds to a concrete reality: many Roma women in Santurtzi and nearby municipalities face significant barriers to accessing stable employment, including a lack of recognised professional training, limited digital and language skills, and precarious working conditions. In response, Eus-Kale offers a nine-month training programme focused on hospital cleaning, a sector with employment opportunities, combining technical training with digital skills, functional Basque language and personal development.
Ten Roma women are taking part in the programme, which combines face-to-face sessions, digital learning and individual tutoring. The project follows a flexible and culturally sensitive approach, adapting to the pace and needs of each participant while taking into account issues such as family responsibilities and work-life balance.
During our visit, we had the opportunity to learn about the work being carried out and to discuss the challenges and lessons emerging throughout the process. Beyond professional training, “Limpieza que Cuida” aims to strengthen participants’ self-esteem, autonomy and confidence, while encouraging their active participation in the local community.
One of the most valuable elements of the initiative is the creation of the “Red que Cuida”, a mutual support network designed to maintain connections between participants and continue supporting the women after the training ends.
At ROVA, we particularly value initiatives like this one, which respond to the real needs of communities and create concrete opportunities to advance equality, autonomy and social inclusion.
